A teacher at Sunshine Coast School District No.46 accused of two sex offences against a minor was found not guilty by provincial court judge Steven Merrick.

Merrick announced his decision June 19 at the Sechelt courthouse.

Details that could reveal the identity of the complainant cannot be disclosed because of a publication ban.

In his analysis, Merrick said the accounts of the incidents described by a witness and the complainant did not corroborate one another, which introduced enough reasonable doubt to exonerate the accused.

The incident was reported in June 2018 and the accused pled not guilty to one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference against a person under 16 last August. The trial took place at the Sechelt courthouse in April.
