Stage 1 outdoor water use restrictions were in effect as of May 1 for those on the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) supply system and within the Town of Gibsons.

The first stage of outdoor water use restrictions allows for the watering of lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables with sprinklers or soaker hoses at alternating times and days according to address.

Households with even addresses can water Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 7 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Those with odd addresses can water during those same hours but on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays instead.

The restrictions apply to all municipal customers on SCRD water.

At a recent committee meeting, SCRD directors voted to revise the existing water restrictions to ban lawn watering at Stage 2, except for those with new lawn permits. Watering restrictions for food crops are expected to be relaxed, though a ban on almost all outdoor watering, food crops included, is still expected at Stage 4.

Those changes won’t come into effect until directors vote on the changes at an upcoming board meeting.
