What's in your trunk or attic? Do you have a family treasure or unusual collectible that you would like more information on or to know the value of?If the answer is yes to these questions, then mark Feb. 21 on your calendar for the eighth annual Antique Roadshow sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives. This major fundraising event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre.Qualified appraisers donate their time and expertise to appraise a variety of items including paintings, stamps and coins, silver and jewellery, rare books, collectibles, china, military items and much more.
Appraisals will be limited to a maximum of three items per person so that as many participants as possible can be seen. Admission is free, and an appraisal will cost $10 for one item, $15 for two items and $20 for three items. There will be heritage displays and historical photos to view plus museum gift shop items and sandwiches, baked goods and refreshments available for purchase. This is a major fundraising event for the museum and all proceeds support museum services and programs. Donations are also greatly appreciated.
As an added attraction, the museum is holding a contest. If you can guess what the item pictured is, bring your answer to the museum or the Roadshow and enter a draw to win a museum gift pack valued at over $100 plus a free museum membership. The mystery item will be on display in the gift shop at the museum until Feb. 21. The winner's name will be drawn and announced at the end of the Roadshow.
Feb. 16 to 22 is B.C. Heritage Week. This year's theme is "a legacy of learning - the heritage of education" by learning something about your own heritage including the background of those interesting collectibles stored away.Besides the Roadshow, the Sechelt Community Archives at the library will have a display of historic photographs of teachers, pupils and schools in the District of Sechelt from the early 1900s to the present. Also on display will be a selection of text books that will bring back memories to many Sechelt residents.
