If you read the newspaper last week, you might have noticed a full-page marriage proposal from Andrew White to his girlfriend of 18 years, Hanna Meehan.
Meehan said yes, and the two were married less than a week later, on Wednesday, Aug. 5, in Cliff Gilker Park.
While the couple was busy planning their wedding, White’s sister Kristy Tosczak filled us in on what’s been going on with the Sunshine Coast’s new favourite couple.
“They’ve been recognized all over the place and people are, like, what did she say?” Tosczak said. “It’s been quite a happy story. Wherever they go, the bakery, the hairdressers, the grocery store – people have been recognizing them.”
Coast Reporter’s Rachelle Wirth caught up with the couple before their engagement. She told them she was doing a photo shoot for our tourism page.
Wirth asked Meehan to hold a copy of the newspaper open and pose for a photo. She had earmarked the proposal.

At first, Meehan held the newspaper up and posed, but didn’t look at the page. Wirth had to ask her to adjust her position until Meehan glanced down and saw the ad that her partner of almost two decades had posted. When she turned to look at White, he was already on his knees.
The couple has been together for 18 years and have two children. They met in Vancouver, and currently live in Bristol, England. Their first date was on Soames Hill in Gibsons.
