The District of Sechelt has signed a new five-year collective agreement with its unionized employees, the municipality announced March 1.
The agreement is retroactive to January 2016 and runs until Dec. 30, 2020 for all district employees in the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union.
It provides wage increases of 1.5 per cent in 2016, 1.75 per cent in 2017, 1.75 per cent in 2018, two per cent in 2019 and two per cent in 2020.
A new part of the agreement will also allow Sechelt to employ casual workers when regular employees take leaves of absence.
The agreement was ratified last month by the union membership with 95 per cent of members in favour.
There are 47 unionized employees at the District of Sechelt, including those on long-term medical leave, maternity leave and temporary employees.
