The Sechelt and District Chamber of Commerce elected a new board of directors at its AGM last Friday and are looking for six more directors to fill out the remaining positions.

Dave Allen returns as a director acting as past president. The other directors nominated at the meeting include Mark Cartier, Simone Carlysle-Smith, Elaine Easton, Marilyn Magas, Stephanie Ross and Barry Smith.

Allen said over the next few months the board would be actively recruiting to try and fill the remaining positions.

"We have a lot of important business events ahead of us," Allen said following the meeting. "The Coast Showcase, which is probably the biggest event that the chambers on the Sunshine Coast do collectively, is a major focus for us. We also have a series of luncheons coming up, our annual gold tournament and, of course, the Bottom Line Business program, which we are actively promoting.

"I'm confident we can fill the remaining positions and then set our direction from there."

In his address at the AGM, Allen touched on the Visitor Information Centre, which will now be run by Sunshine Coast Community Services. He thanked VIC staff members Deanna Paul and Roberta Hopkins for their tireless efforts promoting Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast and discussed business programs the Sechelt chamber will focus on.

"There is no more humbling experience than to be at the helm of an organization when a major function ends," Allen said. "The Sechelt Visitor Information Centre has been synonymous with the Sechelt and District Chamber of Commerce for over 18 years. So many people have been responsible for making our service one of the best in the Province of British Columbia, and indeed the world. As with other Chambers of Commerce in the province, the Sechelt Chamber will renew it's focus on issues affecting all business sectors, continue to provide networking and to support important programs and initiatives through our partnership in the Sechelt Economic Development Partnership and the Sunshine Coast Tourism Partnership."
