Farmers Market
On March 1 Sechelt council renewed the Sechelt Farmers and Artisan Market letter of agreement for three years, allowing the popular market to stay in its location at the end of Cowrie Street near the Rockwood this year.
The agreement will cost the market $1 annually and secures the spot until Dec. 31, 2019.
The Sechelt Farmers and Artisan Market is open from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Saturday from March 26 to the last week of September.
Drag Racing
Council approved six potential drag racing and test-and-tune dates for the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association to utilize the airport runway in Wilson Creek this year.
Council approved April 9, May 27, June 24 and Sept. 10 for potential test-and-tune dates for members of the club and May 28 and Aug. 13 for potential drag racing event days.
Drag racing association president Tony Petula said the club won’t use all the dates approved, as some of them are backups in case races get rained out.
Drag racing can’t happen on the airstrip if it’s wet.
Coun. Noel Muller said the use of the airport runway on occasion by the drag racing association “is a very good example of mutual accommodation, which is something all communities are built on.”
Mobile home park expansion
On March 1 council gave first reading to the official community plan and zoning amendments needed for Chapman Creek Holdings Ltd. to expand Big Maple Mobile Home Park.
The developer wants to rezone two lots adjacent to the mobile home park to R-5 in order to expand it by about 1.55 hectares, which will accommodate approximately 28 additional mobile homes.
The district will now schedule a public hearing for the plan to see what the community has to say about it.
