Search crews seek missing teen

Princess Louisa Inlet

Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM SAR) crews, Sunshine Coast RCMP and search and rescue aircraft were called out Wednesday afternoon after a 16-year-old boy fell into the waters of Princess Louisa Inlet and could not be found.

The South Korean teen, who attended school in Idaho, was taking part in a Christian camp run by Young Life at Malibu Club with his classmates when he reportedly slipped and fell in the water at around 2:30 p.m. on June 8.

As the area is accessible only by boat or air, RCM SAR and Sunshine Coast RCMP responded with aircraft and rescue vessels to search for the missing teen.

As of 9 p.m. Wednesday, the boy had not been found. Rescue efforts were called off for the evening and resumed early the next day with the added assistance of West Coast Marine Services and an RCMP helicopter.

“This is a very concerning situation, and we have called upon all our available resources to help in the search efforts,” said Const. Harrison Mohr with Sunshine Coast RCMP.

“We are working closely with RCM SAR to make the best use of all our search capabilities in this remote and challenging area.”
