Four projects in the Powell River area and on the Sunshine Coast are benefitting from $204,260 in BC Rural Dividend Grants.
Community Futures Sunshine Coast was awarded $85,340 to support “design and planning for an integrated community resource lab” that that organization said will lead to increased economic viability.
The District of Sechelt will get $25,140 to complete the remaining portion of the Suncoaster Trail, connecting Sechelt Airport and Roberts Creek.
“These are great projects that will help us draw more visitors to the Sunshine Coast by funding improvements to local trail systems, as well as strengthening the region's economic viability," said Nicholas Simons, MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast in a release announcing the grants.
The Tla'amin First Nation is also getting a grant for trail work, in their case $29,780 to upgrade the Tla'amin Trails system by adding interpretive signage, a suspension bridge and a five-kilometre link to the Sunshine Coast Trail.
And the City of Powell River was awarded $64,000 to bring in a consultant to work on a master plan for the Powell River Airport.
The province awarded a total of $19 million in this round of grants, as well as $4.6 million through the “special circumstances stream” for 23 initiatives to respond to “economic challenges resulting from the loss of a main employer or the impacts of a natural disaster.”
