Saturday, June 13 saw the Sunshine Coast, local businesses, civic organizations and citizens come together at the sixth annual Home & Garden Expo in Gibsons. Organized and hosted by JJ Premier Events in collaboration with the Coast Community Builders Association, the theme was ‘Greener, Brighter Better’ and saw over 80 exhibitors showcasing the amazing variety of products and services available to the Coast consumer. Jennifer Evans, owner and founder of JJ Premier Events, said, “This year’s Home & Garden Expo has put the Sunshine Coast firmly on the map. It was everything I wanted it to be and more, and I thank everyone for coming out and supporting all the local businesses who put in tremendous efforts with their booths. I also want to thank the Town of Gibsons for their incredible venue, as without it, this event would not be possible.”
The Sunshine Coast Credit Union and The Co-operators were the presenting sponsors and also won second place in the best booth competition voted by attendees. Spirited Ceramics took first place in the competition for the second year in a row. RJR Stoneworks took the third place in what was their first year at the show. Embellish Emporium and WildSafe BC took fourth and fifth spots and had amazing booth displays. A massive congratulations to all.
The turnout was record breaking with nearly 4,000 attendees enjoying the positive, fun event. MC Duane Burnett was rushed off his feet with all the festivities and draws throughout the day. Bob Metcalfe from Sechelt was the lucky winner of the $5,000 grand prize, a solar power package from Olson Electric. Staff from Olson Electric and BC Hydro Net Metering Program gave a tremendous presentation in the seminar room.
Custom Carpets have supported and exhibited at the show for the last six years. Janice Kuester from Custom Carpets said, “Amazing show with an incredible turnout. It was way more successful than previous years, and we look forward to the 2016 show!”
Plans are already underway for next year’s event on Saturday, June 11.
