Sunshine Coast RCMP are looking for additional people who may have paid for, or put a deposit down, for the installation or service of a fireplace insert that was never completed.
So far the RCMP have received a total of seven reports of people being defrauded of amounts ranging from $300 to $3,200. This includes six complaints on the Sunshine Coast and one in Delta.
Customers who contact the individual about why the work is not being completed typically receive a number of excuses, or have their calls simply ignored. The individual is self-employed and not affiliated with any local business.
The Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking that anyone who may have been a victim of this scam, and may have receipts, emails or other forms of documentation, to contact Const. Karen Whitby at 604-885-2266 and quote the file number 2017-7061.
Police ask that this be a reminder to be diligent in checking references and maintaining receipts and proper documentation to prove payments or any contractual obligations when purchasing services.
