Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Jan. 21 to 28:

Break and Enter

• Early on Jan. 25, a suspect gained entry to a building in the 5700 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, and stole a water pump. Surveillance video captured images of a male wearing a possible inclement weather jacket and a headlamp going into the building. Staff located part of the missing pump at the nearby duck pond and police located the missing pump and a work light hidden nearby. The file is still under investigation. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2019-492.

• On Jan. 25, police attended a break and enter to a residence in the 5400 block of Burnett Road, Sechelt. The suspects had rammed a gate to gain access to the property and kicked open a door to the residence. The suspects ripped open drywall and removed any metal wire as well as all the metal plumbing components. The suspects also dug up and removed any underground wiring. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2019-495. The file is still under investigation.

Impaired Driving

• Late on Jan. 25, police conducted a traffic stop with a possible impaired driver after witnessing the vehicle drifting back and forth in its lane and then overcorrecting while heading south on Highway 101 near Chelpi Avenue, Sechelt. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication by alcohol, was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After two “fail” results, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• Early on Jan. 26, police witnessed a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 101 near Wharf Avenue, after it went from well below the speed limit to just over it before coming to a stop well into the intersection. Police initiated a traffic stop with the driver, who was exhibiting signs of impairment. The driver, who advised she’d been consuming alcohol recently, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Mischief

• On Jan. 26 at approximately 11:15 a.m., suspects in a vehicle threw eggs at a vehicle parked in the 4100 block of Irvines Landing Road. The vehicle sped off before any witnesses could note the licence plate.

Collision

• On Jan. 23, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Mission Road, Davis Bay, after a northbound vehicle stopped behind a vehicle that braked suddenly to make a left-hand turn and was rear-ended by another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle advised he’d been distracted by a sign when his passenger warned him to stop. Unfortunately, the second vehicle driver was unable to stop and collided into the rear of the first vehicle. The first vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene and both the first vehicle driver and passenger were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The second vehicle driver was able to drive his vehicle away, and was issued a violation ticket for following too closely. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On Jan. 26, police attended a single-vehicle incident at the intersection of Highway 101 and Leaning Tree Road, Halfmoon Bay, after a passerby noted a vehicle upside down in the culvert. The driver and passenger, who were both able to exit the vehicle on their own, did not report any injuries. The driver advised he’d lost control of the vehicle while attempting to make a left turn onto Leaning Tree Road, and ended up on the edge of the culvert before the vehicle slowly rolled over onto its roof. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to keep right and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Found Property

• On Jan. 24, a phone that had been left on a Sunshine Coast Transit bus was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description, reference police file 2019-469.
