Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating the theft of an automated emergency defibrillator (AED) from the washroom building at the Davis Bay Beach.

Police said the theft likely occurred sometime on Oct. 28 or 29.

The defibrillator unit, valued at $1,000, was paid for by the Rotary Club, which received a $35,000 grant from the Community Forest Legacy Fund in 2019 to install AEDs and other life-saving equipment in several locations around Sechelt.

Sechelt Rotary Club officials told Coast Reporter that not having that equipment in place puts lives at risk and the club is appealing to the conscience of whoever was responsible and urging them to return the unit.

RCMP are asking anyone with information about the theft to contact the detachment at 604-885-2266 and reference file number 2020-7681.
