Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 9 to 16:
Mischief
• Sometime in the past month, a suspect targeted several large machines and vehicles parked near Carlson Forest Service Road, Halfmoon Bay, in an attempt to strip them of copper wire, causing extensive damage in the process. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2019-2141.
Break and Enters
• Sometime in the morning of April 15, a suspect gained entry to an unsecured residence in the 6200 block of Tyler Road, Sechelt, and walked through the house, leaving behind muddy bootprints. Nothing was damaged and it does not appear that anything was stolen. Police remind residents to lock their residences and vehicle to deter any opportunistic thieves.
Thefts
• Between mid-February and April 1, a suspect stole a Stihl chainsaw from a carport in the 700 block of Crucil Road, Gibsons. The 20-inch Stihl chainsaw is a model MS291. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, file 2019-2054.
• On April 10, staff at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, reported a theft in progress after witnessing the suspect trying on new shoes, putting her old shoes in the box on the shelf, and then concealing another pair of shoes in a bag before fleeing the premises on foot. Police located the suspect nearby and arrested her for theft under $5,000. The suspect was released on a Promise to Appear for court and has been banned from the business. The file is still under investigation.
• On April 11, between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., a suspect stole a variety of fitness equipment that had been left by a fitness instructor at Winegarden Park, Gibsons, while the class went on a run. The stolen equipment included four sets of dumbbells in purple, blue, grey, and black pairs of varying weights, ten Ironwill Gear exercise bands in red, black, and orange, a blue yoga mat, and red and green resistance bands. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, file 2019-2092.
Traffic Complaints
• On April 10, a witness reported being passed on a double solid line while driving southbound on Highway 101 near Sakinaw Lake in Pender Harbour. The witness was able to provide a vehicle description as well as a licence plate and police located the suspect vehicle in Halfmoon Bay. As the witness was willing to provide a statement, the suspect driver was issued a violation ticket for crossing a double solid line. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
Impaired Drivers
• On April 10, police initiated a traffic stop with a possible impaired driver on Wharf Avenue near East Porpoise Bay Road, Sechelt. The driver, who was displaying signs of possible impairment from alcohol, was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After a “warn” result, the driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
• On April 13, a witness reported a possible impaired driver on Highway 101 near Sans Souci Road, Halfmoon Bay, after the driver failed to successfully navigate a U-turn. Police located the suspect vehicle parked in Madeira Park with the driver asleep inside holding an open bottle of alcohol. The driver was roused and given a roadside alcohol screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The driver also received a violation ticket for no driver’s licence. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
Found Property
• On April 11, a phone that had been found outside the RCMP office in Sechelt was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference file 2019-2096.
• On April 11, Powell River RCMP requested assistance from the Sunshine Coast RCMP to locate the owner of a ring found in Powell River. The ring was found in a bag along with a receipt dated Jan. 29, from a Sunshine Coast jeweller. If anyone has any information, contact RCMP, file 2019-2105.
