Sunshine Coast RCMP say they’ve seen an increase in calls from the public to report their driveways being blocked, roads obscured to drivers and hazards from trucks and boat trailers sticking out onto roadways.
“Many local beach access locations are within residential neighborhoods which causes frustration to the residents who can’t access or exit their properties,” said Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam in a July 15 press release.
The detachment said it plans to increase enforcement of parking rules on Ramp Road at Ruby Lake and several areas in lower Gibsons as well as other spots with ongoing problems.
Common offences under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act include parking in a no parking zone, blocking a driveway, obstructing traffic and failing to park off a roadway. Fines range from $40 to $84 and violators could also have their vehicles towed at the owner’s expense.
Sunshine Coast RCMP said they would be issuing warnings and then tickets to drivers who are illegally parked. Vehicles that are causing a hazard may be towed immediately.
