The Gibsons Public Market has announced plans for a “virtual” gala fundraiser this year.

The 2020 fundraiser and tribute in support of the market and the Nicholas Sonntag Marine Education Centre will take place Sept. 12 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

“Our volunteer gala committee has created an innovative, virtual experience that will bring everyone together safely, whether you participate from the privacy of your own home or as part of a small gathering hosted by friends,” the Gibsons Community Building Society said in an announcement of the virtual format.

“As always, funds raised at our gala allow us to continue providing welcoming public spaces, exceptional educational programming, impactful marine conservation activities and a bursary for rental subsidies for non-profit groups that share our passion for improving community life.”

Organizers said they’ve also come up with ways to allow people to share “the full gala experience” no matter where they are by ordering a gourmet meal provided by Emelle’s Market Bistro delivered in personalized packaging, along with a signature cocktail, bubbly local cider and wine.

The gala will also still include entertainment, a live auction and a raffle.

Organizers also announced that Judy Rother and Errol Lipschitz have been chosen as co-recipients of the 2020 Darren Entwistle Community Builder Award.

“Individually, and as a team, they are role models for leadership in building a healthy, caring and thriving community… The Gibsons Community Building Society has benefited from their exemplary volunteer service,” organizers said.

“Judy and Errol have dedicated their time on the Sunshine Coast to building an inclusive community.”

Tickets are available online at gibsonspublicmarket.com/2020gala and ticket participants will need access to a device with an Internet connection.

“Prior to the event, one of our dedicated staff or volunteers will walk you through set-up,” the organizers said.
