Protesters march in Sechelt

Bill C-51

The Alliance4Democracy, with about 40 protesters, lined up outside Conservative MP John Weston’s office on Saturday May 30 with a directed protest asking the Canadian senate to vote down Bill C-51.

“It’s completely anti-democratic and it violates charter rights left, right and centre,” Jef Keighley, co-chair of Alliance 4 Democracy, said. “The international organization for security, of which Canada is a signatory, has actually come out and said that Bill C-51 in its present state violates the international Charter of Human Rights.”

This was one of several dozen similar protests across Canada. Currently 15 senators oppose Bill C-51, five support it, and 62 are undecided.

A follow-up meeting hosted by Alliance4Democracy called Making Your Federal Election Vote Count is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 10 at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.
