Procedure bylaw going back to committee

Gibsons

After multiple amendments suggested by Coun. Silas White, Gibsons council’s new procedure bylaw was moved back to committee of the whole for further review, councillors decided at their March 3 council meeting.

White’s suggested amendments include changes to the vocabulary used in the definition of committee of the whole, and the cut-off time for meetings (it’s either going to be 9 or 9:30 p.m.; general consensus was leaning towards 9).

These suggestions and many more that council did not have time for will be reviewed at the next committee meeting March 17.

MOTI report

Vehicles heading south down North Road have a hard time knowing who has the right of way at the intersection of Gibsons Way and School Road. Council hopes that the realignment of the streets will make things easier for drivers and safer for pedestrians.

This was originally recognized as a safety concern in the 2009 Town of Gibsons safety study.

White, when he was a School District No. 46 trustee last year before November’s municipal election, also lobbied along with parents and other concerned residents to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

At the March 3 council meeting, council was presented with a conceptual design made by a local consultant working with Town staff, which has been presented to the Ministry, who are reviewing the proposal.

Further updates are expected later in March or in early April.
