Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 22 to March 2:

Police received several mischief complaints that occurred overnight on Feb. 27, where a suspect smashed the windows of vehicles parked in the 7900 block of Southwood Road, 8100 block of Frances Road, and the 8000 block of Northwood Road, all in Halfmoon Bay. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP.

Break and Enter

• Sometime between Feb. 18 and 25, a suspect gained entry to a garage in the 6100 block of Norwest Bay Road, Sechelt, and cut through a lock to steal two adult mountain bikes. One of the bikes is described as a 2017 women’s Norco, grey and white in colour. The second is a men’s blue mountain bike.

• Between Feb. 21 and 25, a suspect gained entry to a building in the 1000 block of Fairview Road, Gibsons, by unscrewing a latch to remove the door. No other damage was reported and it is unknown at this point what, if anything, had been stolen.

Fisheries Act

• On Feb. 28, while police were conducting foot patrols in Davis Bay, an unmarked and unsupervised crab trap was seized from the pier. Fishermen are reminded that they require a licence, crab traps must be clearly marked with a contact name and phone number or they must be monitored/supervised by the fisherman.

Theft

• On Feb. 25, a suspect was caught on surveillance video concealing an item in her bag before leaving the premises without paying for it. The suspect, described as a 30-something Caucasian female with straight auburn hair, was wearing a grey toque and black knee-length winter coat. The suspect is known to police and the file is still under investigation.
On Feb. 25, staff witnessed a male suspect stealing items from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. Staff followed the suspect into the parking lot but the suspect fled on foot while a female who was with the suspect fled in a vehicle. The staff member was able to obtain the vehicle’s licence plate so police will be following up with the registered owner. The file is still under investigation.

Impaired Rollover

On March 2, just before midnight, police and ambulance were dispatched to a rollover collision where the driver was trapped in his vehicle near Conrad Road in Roberts Creek. The male driver in his 50s was extracted by the fire department. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol and provided a breath sample, which resulted in a fail reading. The driver was transported to hospital for examination and released. His driver’s licence was seized and the investigation is ongoing.
