Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for May 4 to 11:

Collision

• On May 7, a two-vehicle incident occurred on Highway 101 near Snodgrass Road, Sechelt, after a northbound vehicle suddenly stopped for a pedestrian who was waiting to cross the road. The first vehicle behind this vehicle managed to stop, though the driver had to slam on his brakes, but the second vehicle was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the first vehicle. The vehicle that had stopped suddenly in the first place carried on, but the pedestrian remained on scene and corroborated how the incident happened. The first vehicle could be driven away, but the second vehicle had to be towed due to extensive front-end damage. The file is still under investigation.

Bike Theft

• On May 4, at around 10:45 p.m., a suspect stole a bike from outside the washrooms at Armours Beach, Gibsons. The bike, which was left unattended for a short period, is described as a grey Brodie Khan mountain bike with after-market green foot pedals. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2845.

• Overnight on May 10, a suspect stole a bike from the back of a residence in the 700 block of Cascade Crescent, Gibsons. The stolen bike is described as a men’s mountain bike, with all-grey Knolly Endorphin frame and Fox shocks. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2958.

Fraud

• On May 5, a Coast resident reported a possible fraud after learning that a large sum of money he had transferred as part of a business agreement never reached the intended recipient. The resident advised that a third party had contacted him, purporting to be connected to the recipient, and convinced the resident that she was dealing with the company’s finances and that the funds should be sent to her. The resident did, and now suspects the business’s email had been hacked. The file is still under investigation.

Theft of Gas

• Overnight on May 5, a suspect siphoned nearly a full tank of gas from a vehicle parked in the 5400 block of Derby Road, Sechelt. The vehicle owner advised a similar unreported theft had occurred on the same vehicle late in April. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2854.

Impaired Collision

• On May 7, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Mason Road and Jasper Road, Sechelt, after a nearby resident heard a loud bang and went outside to find a vehicle had gone across a ditch and struck a power pole. The driver was seen leaving the scene, but returned a short time later. Police noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol but the driver refused to provide a breath sample. As a result, the driver was released on an undertaking for court and issued a 90-day administrative driving prohibition. The vehicle was also impounded. The file is still under investigation.

Found Property

• On May 6, a cell phone found on a trail in Roberts Creek was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-2878.

Impaired Driving

• On May 7, a witness reported a possible impaired driver heading south on Highway 101 from Halfmoon Bay. The witness advised that the vehicle had been swerving all over the road and was stopped at Trail Bay Mall, Sechelt. The female driver was located at a nearby business and advised she’d consumed alcohol shortly before driving. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and after two fail results, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Theft of Sign

• On May 9, a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, reported the theft of a metal sign that says “Les Fleur de Fi” and had been on the back of the business. The suspects also stole four bags of potting soil. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2936.

Break and Enter/Mischief

• On May 9, a suspect gained entry to a business in the 5600 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt, and tore an alarm panel off a wall. The same suspect returned to the business later in the day while the door was being re-keyed and attempted, and failed, to steal locksmithing tools. The suspect did, however, manage to get away with a key to the new lock. Police have identified the suspect, who was caught on surveillance video. The file is still under investigation.

Prohibited Driving

• On May 10, while driving south on Sechelt Inlet Road, police witnessed a vehicle cut abruptly in front of the patrol car and swerve into a roadway. Police initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as a prohibited driver. The driver was arrested for driving while prohibited and released with an appearance notice for court as well as a violation ticket for no driver’s licence. The vehicle was also impounded for seven days.
