Police Report: Large amount of building materials stolen in Garden Bay

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 5 to 13: Sometime between April 5 and 8, a suspect stole a large supply of building materials from a property in the 13200 block of Kammerle Road, Garden Bay.

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 5 to 13:

Sometime between April 5 and 8, a suspect stole a large supply of building materials from a property in the 13200 block of Kammerle Road, Garden Bay. The stolen items include 18 pieces of 2 x 6 x 20-inch wood planks, 23 pieces of 3/4-inch plywood, and 21 pieces of 2 x 6 x 10-inch wood planks. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2315.

Other Thefts

• On April 13, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., a suspect stole a painting from a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt. The stolen artwork is described as being approximately three feet by two feet in size, in a thin frame which features an ocean scene with a Princess cruise ship and Indigenous people paddling a longboat beside it. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2330.

• Sometime in the past month, a suspect gained entry to a shed on a property in the 6400 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and stole a two-horsepower Honda outboard motor and a Husqvarna chainsaw. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2325.

Break and Enter

• A break and enter was reported at a cabin on Worlcombe Island, where the suspects gained entry through a window and stole a number of tools. The stolen items include an orange Stihl chainsaw, a red Honda generator and a power drill. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2209.

• At around 4 a.m. on April 9, a suspect gained entry to a business in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, by smashing then unlocking a window. Once inside the building, the suspect attempted to break into another locked room full of computers by damaging the doors. It appears the suspect was deterred by a second alarm and fled without stealing any valuables.

• On April 10, break and enters were reported at two separate cabins on Thormanby Island. The suspect smashed windows and breached doors to gain entry and stole paint guns and Bluetooth speakers. 

Theft/Fraud

• Sometime on April 6, a suspect gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 700 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, and stole a wallet and chequebook. The owner contacted her bank and discovered that several of the cheques had been fraudulently cashed. Shortly afterwards, while investigating a separate incident, police located a suspect and the stolen chequebooks. The file is still under investigation.

Dump Truck Crash

• On April 13, police attended a report of a rolled-over dump truck in the 6000 block of Sechelt Inlet Road, Sechelt. Emergency Health Services and the Sechelt Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the extrication of the injured driver, who was transported to hospital for treatment. Witness accounts suggest the truck’s brakes had failed while the driver attempted to make a turn. The truck was towed from the scene and the matter has been referred to Worksafe BC and CVSE.

Collision

• On April 7, police attended a single-vehicle incident near the intersection of Radcliffe Road and Snodgrass Road, Sechelt, after a northbound vehicle ended up going over a concrete barrier. The unimpaired and uninjured driver advised that he’d gone through the intersection in error instead of turning right. As the driver attempted to turn around, a cat reportedly ran across the road, causing the driver to swerve, leave the roadway and strike then drive over the barricade. The vehicle was towed and the matter has been referred to ICBC.

Found Property

• On April 13, a bag containing some audio equipment was found in the 400 block of Central Avenue, Gibsons. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2020-2320. Please call the detachment prior to attending, 604-885-2266.
