Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 14 to 27:

On July 22, police attended a two-vehicle incident near Highway 101 at Roberts Creek Road, Roberts Creek, after the two vehicles appeared to have reversed out of opposing parking lots at the same time. The first vehicle reversed very quickly and its front bumper collided into the second vehicle’s rear bumper, rendering the first vehicle undriveable. The driver of the first vehicle was found to be a prohibited driver with a warrant for driving while prohibited out of another jurisdiction. The driver was arrested on the warrant, as well as for driving while prohibited on this date. The first vehicle was also impounded for seven days. The uninjured second driver’s vehicle was still driveable and he was able to leave the scene on his own. The file is still under investigation.

Theft

• Overnight on July 14, a suspect gained entry to a vehicle with an open window parked in the 1200 block of Paggio Road, Roberts Creek, and stole a new pair of green camouflage Vortex Diamondback binoculars in a black zip case. No damage or other theft was reported.

• On July 15, a theft was reported at a multi-unit residence in the 5600 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt, after a suspect removed a key lock box that had been attached to a chain link fence in the secured underground parking garage. It is possible a second lock box was stolen from the same location. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4639.

• Overnight on July 17, a suspect stole several pieces of clothing that had been hung out to dry at a residence in the 400 block of Eaglecrest Drive, Gibsons. The stolen articles are described as pajama tops in pink, red, mint green with snowflakes, and black with a bird design. No other thefts were reported.

• Overnight on July 23, a suspect stole a boat that had been moored off shore near the 800 block of Marine Drive, Gibsons. The stolen boat is described as an older grey and white Crestliner with a 9.9 horsepower motor attached. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4894.

Prohibited Driver

• On July 17, police attended a single-vehicle incident involving a possible impaired driver on North Road and Reed Road, Gibsons, after the vehicle went off road and crashed into a fence and telephone pole. Witnesses reported seeing the driver drinking what appeared to be alcohol while on the Langdale-bound ferry and driving erratically before the collision. Police arrested the male driver a short distance away after he exited the vehicle on his own, and determined the driver was already a prohibited driver. Alcohol was ruled out as a contributing factor, but the driver was served an appearance notice for court for driving while prohibited. The file is still under investigation.

Found Property

• On July 18, a single gold earring was found in the 2100 block of Lower Road, Roberts Creek. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-4722. 

Hit and Run

• On July 21, police received a report of a hit and run at a parking lot in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. A witness provided the licence plate number of a vehicle that had made a too-sharp turn and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle, damaging the rear driver’s side bumper. The driver left the scene without stopping to leave any information for the damaged vehicle owner. Police are attempting to locate the registered owner of the suspect vehicle and the file is still under investigation. 

Break and Enter

• On July 22, a possible break and enter was reported at Sechelt Hospital in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after a male suspect was witnessed prying open a locked door. The suspect was located inside and escorted out, after no damage or theft was reported. The same suspect was shortly later reported to be attempting to break into a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. A witness, who captured the incident on cell phone video, called police who located the suspect nearby and arrested him for attempted break and enter and mischief. The file is still under investigation.

Collision

• On July 26, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 13600 block of Highway 101, Madeira Park, after the first vehicle that had been stopped on the side of the road pulled out unexpectedly and struck the rear passenger door of a second passing vehicle. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage and had to be towed from the scene. A passenger in the second vehicle was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The file is still under investigation.

• On July 26, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 15400 block of Hallowell Road, Ruby Lake, after a passerby reported a vehicle that had gone off road and appeared to be wedged between some trees. The caller also advised that the driver (the lone occupant) had managed to exit the vehicle on her own. The driver advised that something had distracted her attention and that she ended up driving off the road and into the ditch. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

• On July 27, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Roberts Creek Road, Roberts Creek, after the first vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and attempted to make a U-turn, and collided with a second vehicle that had been driving behind it. Fortunately, the collision occurred at low velocity, so no injuries were reported. However, both vehicles had to be towed due to damage. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On July 23, police attended a three-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Monkey Tree Lane, Sechelt, after the first vehicle driver looked away briefly from the road and when he looked forward again, he noticed that traffic was stopped behind a vehicle waiting to make a left turn off the roadway. The first vehicle driver was unable to stop in time and skidded into the rear of the second vehicle which then collided into the back of the third vehicle. The drivers of the second and third vehicle were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and both their vehicles had to be towed due to damage. The uninjured driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for following too close. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
