Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 3 to 9:
• On March 3, police were advised of the theft of five or six large batteries from the Coast Cable yard at 5555 Wharf Ave. in Sechelt. The batteries are the size of a car battery and cannot be used for anything generic. Batteries are valued at $300 each and weigh approximately 80 pounds. If anyone has any information related to this theft they are asked to call the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266.
Theft
• On March 4, police were advised that a blue and lime-green Giant 21-speed mountain bike had been stolen after being locked outside the London Drugs in Gibsons. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to call Sunshine Coast RCMP.
Found Property
• On March 9, a motorcycle helmet and gloves were dropped off at the Sechelt RCMP office after being located in a parking lot in Sechelt. Owner can attend the detachment and provide a description for the return of their items.
Traffic Offence
• On March 9 at 2:45 p.m., a school bus driver reported that he had stopped at Redrooffs and O’Brian Road in Halfmoon Bay to drop off school children. The bus had its emergency lights flashing and the stop sign out but a white BMW X3 drove around the school bus narrowly missing a child about to cross the street. Drivers are reminded they must not pass a school bus with lights and stop sign out or they will face a $368 fine plus three points on their driver’s licence as per Section 149 of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations.
Mischief
• Sunshine Coast RCMP are still investigating upwards of 16 reports of car windows being smashed in Lower Gibsons on and around March 5. Anyone with any information, surveillance video or dash cam footage in the early hours of March 5 is asked to call the RCMP. The areas targeted were Marine Drive, North Road, South Fletcher, Burns Road, Gower Point and Burton Road.
Office Closure
• The Gibsons RCMP office will be closed Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17, due to staff training. The office will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. The Sechelt RCMP office will be open as usual, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
