Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 15 to 23:

Road Rage

• On April 18, police received a road rage complaint after a vehicle stalled at a traffic light in Sechelt. While the driver worked on getting the car started again, the second driver behind her laid on his horn. When the first driver got moving again, the suspect driver tailgated as the two vehicles continued south on Highway 101. The first driver pulled over in Davis Bay and the second driver, a 60-something male, got out and started to verbally harass the first driver as well as the driver’s young son, who was in the back seat, before getting back into his car and leaving the scene. Police are attempting to locate the first driver.

Theft

• Sometime between April 15 and 17, a suspect stole two new bags of garden soil beside a driveway in the 5900 block of Sandy Hook Road, Sandy Hook. One of the stolen bags was labelled “Seasoil” and the second bag was President’s Choice brand.
• On April 15, between 5 and 9 p.m., a suspicious male was captured on surveillance video popping the hood of a vehicle parked in an alley in the 5500 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt, then looking at other vehicles in the area before leaving on foot. The same male returned to the scene at around 9 p.m., opened the hood of the same vehicle he’d looked at earlier, and removed the battery before fleeing the scene on foot. The male suspect was wearing khaki shorts, white shoes and a black zip hoodie with a white eagle on the front.

• Between April 9 and 19, a suspect stole a lawnmower, a George Foreman grill and a circular saw from a property in the 6100 block of Stockwell Road, Sechelt. The lawnmower had been secured to a set of stairs with a chain but the suspect removed part of the handle to disconnect the mower from the chain.

• On April 22, a suspect gained entry to an unattended vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Medusa Street, Sechelt, and stole a black Nikon D300 camera and 18-200 millimetre Nikor lens. The camera body serial number is 5011242. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-2393.

Collision

• On April 19, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 3300 block of Kraus Road, Roberts Creek, after a resident came out to investigate a loud noise and found an unoccupied vehicle crashed into her fence. It appears the vehicle popped out of gear, rolled backwards into a driveway, struck a second unoccupied parked vehicle, then into a fence before coming to a rest against a tree. Fortunately, no one was hurt, damages were relatively minor and the first vehicle could be driven away. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On April 20, police attended a single-vehicle incident near the intersection of Garden Bay Road and Hammond Road, Garden Bay, after a passerby reported a vehicle in the ditch with its tail lights on. When police and emergency responders arrived, the vehicle was empty and appeared to have lost control on the curve and ended up on its side in the ditch. Police learned the registered owner had already called a tow truck to remove the vehicle, advising he was uninjured and at home. Police are still attempting to locate the registered owner and will be issuing violation tickets for driving without insurance and failure to remain on scene.

Break and Enter

• On April 21, police attended a break and enter complaint on Gambier Island after a resident discovered a number of items missing from the property. The stolen items included an orange canoe, a pop-up tent, cushions, ornaments, binoculars, a telescope, wine, and other household items. Some of the items were later recovered at another property. The file is still under investigation.

• Overnight on April 18, a suspect gained access to a “sea-can” storage container located in the 5900 block of Sechelt Inlet Road, Sechelt, by cutting through the locks and stole a Champion brand 3500-watt gas generator and a Kenwood VHF radio with inverter. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-2337.

Impaired Driving

• On April 21, police initiated a traffic stop with a possible impaired driver on Derby Road, West Sechelt, after witnessing the vehicle drifting in its lane, crossing the fog line and then striking the curb. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, advised she had consumed alcohol hours earlier. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
