Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 28 to April 9:
Theft from Vehicle
• Overnight on March 28, a suspect gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5800 block of Medusa Street, Sechelt, and stole some spare change and rifled through the glove box, but nothing else was noted stolen. A second incident during the same time period was reported in the 5700 block of Mermaid Street, Sechelt, after a suspect gained entry to another unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the glove box, stealing some spare change and a large gold key on a gold Eiffel Tower key fob. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-2002 or 2018-2013.
Theft of Trees
• Overnight on March 31, a suspect stole 2,300 small trees that were left near the powerline by Trout Lake that had been waiting distribution and planting. The 13 boxes of one-foot-tall cedar seedlings were taken from a pallet and would have fit the bed of a pickup truck. Some of the seedlings had white labels with Woodmore Nursery on them as well as information about the seedling variety. Also stolen was a spine board, a basket stretcher, and a white Silvacool tarp with a silver liner used to regulate tree temperatures. Theft
• Overnight on April 4, a thief entered a property in the 4400 block of Garden Bay Road, and stole two full trailer propane tanks with markings that they were Made in Cleveland and an old Jet brand 24-piece metric wrench set in a plastic blue case.
Collision
• Late on April 4, police attended a single-vehicle incident after a vehicle went off road on the corner of Harry Road and Grandview Road, Gibsons, into a hydro pole, shearing it off at the ground. Witnesses reported that the driver exited the vehicle and walked up Harry Road. Police located the uninjured driver (the registered owner) nearby, who advised he’d been heading up Harry Road when he hit the gas and the lost control, ending up in the ditch. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and for leaving the scene of an accident. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
Shoplifting
• On April 6, a thief was caught on surveillance video stealing a pair of shoes from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. The suspect is seen trying on the shoes then taking them off and putting them in a bag before leaving the premises. Staff recognized the suspect and provided police with her contact information. Police located the suspect who admitted to the theft and returned the stolen goods to police. The suspect was issued a promise to appear for court on charges of theft under $5,000. The file is still under investigation.
Impaired Driving
• On April 7, police witnessed a vehicle drive past a stop sign on Trail Avenue, Sechelt, then turn onto Highway 101 into the oncoming lane. The driver corrected the vehicle and returned to the proper driving lane, at which point police initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled over and hopped the curb before coming to a stop. Police spoke with the driver who advised he’d consumed alcohol a short time prior to driving. He was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Found Property
• On April 8, a woman’s ring was found in Davis Bay. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference file 2018-2124.
Break and Enter
• Overnight on April 9, a suspect gained entry to a residence in the 6100 block of Laverock Road, Madeira Park, and stole an undetermined number of tools. It appears the suspect possibly gained entry through a lower level window. The file is still under investigation. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-2139.
