Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 14 to 20:

Shoplifting

On Feb. 13, police attended a theft report at a business in the 5400 block of Trail Avenue, Sechelt, after the thief, who is known to the police as well as the business, stole a Eurostream brushed nickel sink faucet. The thief had taken the faucet out of its box and left it, along with her cell phone, on the shelf. The thief was also caught on video surveillance cameras. Police located the thief and arrested her for theft under $5,000 and for breaching her conditions not to enter any commercial business on the Sunshine Coast. The file is still under investigation.

Theft from Vehicles

• Sometime between Feb. 9 and 12, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 4600 block of Whitaker Road, Davis Bay, and stole a wooden box containing some small hand tools and a large hardcover book titled Encyclopedia of Native Tribes of North America by Michael Johnson. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-942.

• Overnight on Feb. 15, a thief gained entry to a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Marine Drive, Gibsons, and stole a number of items including gift cards, BC Ferries Experience card, change, makeup and various documents. The thief also damaged parts of the interior.

• Overnight on Feb. 16, a thief gained access to two unlocked vehicles parked in the 300 block of Wells Lane, Gibsons, and stole some lottery tickets. No damage or other theft was reported. Police remind the public to remove valuables and to secure their vehicles to deter opportunistic thieves.

• Overnight on Feb. 14, a thief gained access to a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Seaview Road, Gibsons, and stole a new IT brand black suitcase and carry-on case, a white Adidas bag with black stripe, a size 11 pair of men’s golf shoes and a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-1004.

• On Feb. 13, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 200 block of King Road, Gibsons, and stole some cash from the centre console as well as a wallet that fortunately, only contained shopper loyalty cards. The owner heard her dog barking at around 3:45 a.m. and believes that is when the theft occurred.

• Also overnight on Feb. 13, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Fairview Road, Gibsons, and stole a small metal tin containing soccer ball pins and a wallet that contained identification, credit and bank cards, and a ferry card. The owner later advised that the thief had made over 20 Visa purchases at various businesses in Gibsons before the card was cancelled. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-964. The file is still under investigation.

Collision

• On Feb. 15, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 5500 block of Highway 101, near Ti’ta Way, Sechelt. When the light turned green, the first vehicle, which was in the right hand turn lane, sped up past the second vehicle which was in the left hand through lane and attempted to force its way in front. The two vehicles made contact near the meridian at Chelpi Avenue, and the first vehicle lost control and slid into the right hand ditch. The first driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without consideration. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Found Property

• On Feb. 15, a bike that had been found in the bushes off Field Road, Wilson Creek, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference file 2018-995.

• On Feb. 15, a hearing aid that had been found back in October 2017 was turned in to RCMP. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description, reference file 2018-1000.

• On Feb. 15, a cell phone that had been found in the bushes near the Sechelt Public Library was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference file 2018-991.

Break and Enter

• Overnight on Feb. 19, a thief smashed a window to gain access to a business in the 200 block of Gower Point Road, Gibsons, and stole a large assortment of cigarettes and about 50 Bic lighters. The thief proceeded to damage other property before exiting through the front door. The Forensic Identification Section has been called and the file is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-1082.
