• Sometime between Jan. 5 and 9, a suspect gained entry into a residence in the 7600 block of Redrooffs Road, Halfmoon Bay, by prying open the doors facing away from the road. Inside, it appears the suspect ransacked the residence before stealing a number of items, including keys, a vacuum cleaner, binoculars, electric razor, cheese, and a bottle of wine. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2018-188.

Collision

• On Jan. 9, police attended a motor vehicle incident in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, after a driver backed his vehicle into a parked vehicle, causing minor damage. The vehicle then drove forward, sideswiping a wooden pillar, causing moderate damage, before coming to a stop with the aid of bystanders. The driver, whose vehicle sustained significant damage, was not impaired and advised police he hadn’t felt the impact and that he’d been involved in a similar unreported crash the previous month. The driver’s vehicle was towed from the scene and a driver’s fitness test has been requested.

• Late on Jan. 9, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Tita Way, Sechelt, after the first vehicle made a right hand turn off Tita Way onto the highway, lost control, crossed both westbound lanes, jumped the median, and crossed into the oncoming lanes, striking the rear driver’s side of an eastbound vehicle. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported although the lone eastbound driver was taken to hospital for assessment. The eastbound vehicle had to be towed from the scene. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for unsafe start and failing to keep right. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Hit and Run Info Sought

• On Jan. 11 around 8:30 a.m., a hit and run occurred after the first vehicle made a right turn westbound onto Highway 101 off Henry Road, Gibsons, cutting in front of a second westbound vehicle. The second vehicle driver attempted to brake to avoid hitting the rear of the first vehicle, but was unable to do so and struck the first vehicle’s driver’s side door. The first vehicle initially pulled over but when the second vehicle pulled in behind, the first vehicle fled the scene before driver information could be exchanged. The driver of the second vehicle fortunately did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, but her vehicle had to be towed due to damage. The driver of the first vehicle, a silver or grey SUV or truck, is described as a Caucasian male in his early thirties. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2018-232.
