Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Dec. 11 to 19:

Break and Enter

• On the evening of Dec. 11, a thief gained entry into a residence in the 400 block of Abbs Road, Gibsons, by prying open a side door, and stole a container full of change. No other theft was reported. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-8230. The file is still under investigation.

• Sometime between Dec. 11 and 13, suspects attempted to gain entry to a residence in the 300 block of Stewart Road, Gibsons, by prying open the front door, but failing, moved to a kitchen window, broke it and unlocked it. Once inside, the suspects disturbed some of the contents of the residence, but nothing appears to have been stolen. The suspects also tried unsuccessfully prying open the door to another suite in the building, before locating an unlocked sliding door to gain access. As the suite was unoccupied, nothing was stolen. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-8236. 

• Between Dec. 10 and 18, a suspect damaged a rear door at a residence in the 600 block of Gower Point Road, Gibsons, and gained access. The suspect appears to have gone through the residence but other than some candy, nothing was taken and no other damage was reported. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2017-8335.

• At approximately 7 a.m. on Dec. 18, a suspect set off an alarm after smashing a window at a business in the 1000 block of Roberts Creek Road, Roberts Creek. Once inside the premises, the suspect rifled through the till and stole some cigarettes. There was some other minor damage reported, but no other obvious thefts. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2017-8329.

Impaired Driving

• A woman is facing charges for failing to provide a second breath sample after an accident on Highway 101 Tuesday evening, Dec. 19. The driver of a small truck lost control and ended up rolling the vehicle near the base of Rat Portage Hill. Police said the woman blew a fail on her first breathalyzer test, but refused to take a second. Speed is also being looked at as a possible factor. The two passengers in the car were both children. There were no serious injuries.

• Late on Dec. 12, a witness reported a possible impaired driver at a business in the 5600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. Police located the suspect driver and noted he was exhibiting signs of intoxication. The driver, who initially denied consuming alcohol, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. He was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Dec. 13, police stopped a possible impaired driver during a roadblock set up on Highway 101 near Monkey Tree Lane, Sechelt. The driver, who admitted to consuming alcohol a short time prior to driving, was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After two warn results, the driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition.

• On Dec. 15, police attended a possible impaired driver complaint in the 5600 block of Sunshine Coast Highway, Sechelt, after a witness reported a vehicle backed into her parked vehicle. Police located the driver who was exhibiting signs of intoxication. The driver, who had an expired driver’s licence, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. She was issued a violation ticket for no driver’s licence and a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Dec. 16, police pulled over a possible impaired driver near the intersection of Trail Avenue and Neptune Road, Sechelt. The driver initially denied drinking but then admitted to consuming shortly before driving. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test that resulted in a warn. He was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for the same period.

Fireworks

• On Dec. 16, police attended a complaint of fireworks being set off in the 5300 block of Wilson Road, Sechelt. Police located a house party and spoke with the host who admitted he and his guests had been setting off fireworks. The host was advised that fireworks are prohibited and to check bylaws before any such activity in the future.

Theft from Vehicle

On Dec. 16, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt, and stole a grey cloth handbag with a white print. Police remind everyone to remove valuables from their vehicles and to lock them to discourage opportunistic thieves.
