Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 26 to Dec. 3:

Stolen Truck

• Overnight on Nov. 29, a thief or thieves stole a locked vehicle containing a large number of tools and a spare set of keys that had been parked in the 5500 block of Ocean Avenue, Sechelt. While making patrols up Carlson Lake Forest Service Road in Roberts Creek, police met up with a hunter who was asked to keep an eye out for the stolen vehicle. Shortly afterwards, the male contacted RCMP advising he may have seen the vehicle. Police attended and located the stolen truck, still running, with two occupants inside. Police arrested the occupants without incident and the two were transported to cells. The file is still under investigation.

Impaired Driving

• On Dec. 2, police stopped a vehicle that had attempted to avoid a roadblock set up on Ocean Avenue and Cowrie Street, Sechelt, and noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible impairment. The driver advised he’d just come from a drinking establishment and was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Nov. 28, a possible impaired driver was reported after the suspect vehicle was witnessed travelling at very erratic speeds, including almost 50 km below the posted speed limit, weaving within in its lane, and signalling turns and not making them. Police located the vehicle on Trail Avenue, Sechelt, and spoke with the driver who advised she’d last consumed alcohol several hours earlier. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. She was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Dec. 2, police stopped a possible impaired driver during a roadblock set up on Highway 101 near Silverstone Lane, Sechelt, and noted the driver smelled of alcohol. The driver admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the evening and was exhibiting other signs of intoxication. He was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test, and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Dec. 2, police witnessed a vehicle driving very slowly westbound on School Road near Gower Point Road, Gibsons, and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of impairment, advised he’d consumed alcohol shortly prior to driving. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Theft from Truck

• Between Nov. 23 and 28, thieves broke into a pickup truck parked in the 5600 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, by entering through the canopy and smashing two rear windows to gain access to the cab. The thieves then stole a DeWalt skill saw and a 228-piece Stanley socket set in a black case. Security video captured images of two suspects, one a possible female of smaller stature, committing the theft. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-7943.

Collision

• On Dec. 1, police attended a three-vehicle incident northbound on Gibsons Way at Seamount Way, Gibsons, after the first vehicle rear-ended the second vehicle, which was then pushed into the rear of the third vehicle that had stopped due to volume of traffic. No injuries were reported and only the first vehicle required a tow. The first vehicle driver, who advised she’d noticed the brake lights but had been unable to stop in time, was issued a violation ticket for following too closely. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On Nov. 30, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 and Crowe Road, Roberts Creek after the first vehicle slowed to stop behind a vehicle that was waiting to make a left turn off the highway and was struck from behind by the second vehicle. The damage to both vehicles was extensive and forced the closure of the highway for a period. Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The driver of the second vehicle advised she had not noticed the vehicle stopped in front of her. A driver’s medical licence review has been requested for this driver. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Break and Enter

• Sometime between Nov. 26 and Dec. 1, a thief gained entry to a residence in the 500 block of Abbs Road, Gibsons, and stole an Apple Mac laptop computer. The thief pried open a back basement door to gain access to the residence. The file is still under investigation. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-8005.

Mischief to Vehicle

• On Dec. 1, an attempted break and enter into a vehicle was reported after a Coast resident who had parked on the upper deck of the Langdale ferry returned to her vehicle and noticed that someone had damaged the sunroof at each of the four corners as well as the metal rod holding the sunroof in place. No actual access to the vehicle was gained.
