Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 22 to 29:

Traffic Incidents and Prohibited Drivers

• On Aug. 22, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 6400 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after a vehicle abruptly stopped to make a left turn off the highway into a driveway, causing cars behind it to make quick stops. Unfortunately, one vehicle was unable to stop in time and collided into the rear of a second vehicle. The first vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene. The second vehicle lost its rear bumper but was still operable. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported. The file has been referred to ICBC.

• On Aug. 24, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 4300 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after a vehicle went off the road and struck a utility pole. The driver, who was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, advised he’d been startled when another vehicle pulled out from right to left, and he lost control of his vehicle. The file is still under investigation.

• On Aug. 26, police located a known prohibited driver driving a borrowed vehicle in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt. The driver was arrested and released on a promise to appear for court for driving while prohibited, issued two more separate notices of suspension and a notice of impoundment. The vehicle was impounded for seven days. The file is still under investigation.

• On Aug. 28, police stopped a vehicle with no front licence plate on Gibsons Way, and further investigation showed that the driver was an unlicensed driver who was a vehicle impound candidate as well. The driver was served a violation ticket for no driver’s licence, a notice of driving prohibition and notice of impoundment. The matter has been referred to RoadSafety BC.

• On Aug. 28, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Middlepoint Road, after a northbound vehicle made an abrupt turn into the ditch, ending up wedged behind the edge of the roadway and a rock face. The driver, who had to be extracted from the vehicle by the Pender Harbour Volunteer Fire Department, was taken to Sechelt Hospital for extensive non-life-threatening injuries. A young passenger was also taken to hospital for assessment but was found to be uninjured and was released. It is believed the incident occurred after the driver turned to speak to the passenger in the back seat and inadvertently jerked the vehicle to the right. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
