Thefts

• On July 11, between 3:30 and 5 p.m., a vandal smashed the passenger side window of a vehicle parked at Secret Beach, Gibsons, but nothing was stolen. It appears the suspect may have used a tool to cause the damage.

• Overnight on July 13, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked near Dougall Park, Gibsons, and stole a wallet that contained some cash as well as bank and identification cards.

• In a related file, overnight on June 12, a thief gained entry to the same unlocked vehicle parked in the same area and stole a new Royal Blue JBL Charger 3 car stereo speaker. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2017-4335 and 2017-4338.

• On July 13, two female suspects were caught on surveillance video stealing a Ripline brand Ninja Line from a business in the 4300 block of Sunshine Coast Highway, Sechelt. The suspects took the zipline and left the empty box on the shelf. One suspect, a blonde female with glasses, was wearing an orange strappy sundress, flip flops and a back pack. The second suspect has dark blond hair and was wearing an asymmetrical off-shoulder black-fringed sundress, flip flops, and was carrying a white-strapped shoulder bag. Both females wore their hair pulled back into ponytails and appear to be in their teens. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-4350.

• On July 13, police attended a dumpster diving complaint at a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street after staff found yet another individual rooting through the contents of the business’s dumpster. Past problems have included people cutting the lock off the bin, though this was not the case in this instance. Police warned the male suspect that the dumpster and its contents were private property and he had no right to go through it.

• Around July 7, a thief stole a pet chameleon that had been kept in a secure locked cage outside a residence in the 5200 block of Selma Park Road, Sechelt. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-4369.

Found property

Bike accident

• On July 13, police assisted Sechelt Volunteer Fire Department and Sechelt and North Vancouver Search and Rescue with a downed dirt biker on a very rough trail in Tuwanek. The biker, who lost control of her bike, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and had to be airlifted out to where she could be transported to hospital for treatment.

Impaired driving

• On July 17, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Garden Bay Road near Katherine Lake Road, Garden Bay after a witness reported a vehicle had gone into a ditch and rolled over. The driver, who turned out to be a prohibited driver, attempted to leave the scene on foot but was detained by a passerby until police arrived. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication and suffering non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to hospital for treatment. It was also determined that the driver had stolen the vehicle, so along with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and prohibited driving, the driver is being charged with theft of a motor vehicle. The file is still under investigation.
