Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following from April 25 to May 1:
Found Property
• On April 25, a bike and backpack found in Ingles Park, Gibsons, was turned in to police. The backpack, which contained groceries, and the bike may be claimed by owner with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference file 2017-2262.
• On April 27, a cell phone found in Mission Point Park, Davis Bay, was turned in to police. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference file number 2017-2319.
Impaired Driving
• On April 25, police stopped a possible impaired driver on Highway 101 near Chelpi Avenue, Sechelt. The driver, who exhibited signs of intoxication, initially denied having consumed alcohol. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• On April 26, witnesses reported a possible impaired driver disembarking from the Langdale ferry after the driver was seen drinking on the ferry and then having difficulty getting into his vehicle. Police located the suspect vehicle on Henry Road, Gibsons, and noted the driver exhibiting signs of intoxication. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• On April 27, an off-duty police officer witnessed a possible impaired driver speeding westbound on Highway 101 near Field Road, Wilson Creek. The suspect driver, who was seen drinking out of a can, drifted into oncoming traffic and nearly caused a head-on collision before swerving back into the proper lane and then nearly drove into a ditch. Police stopped the vehicle in Selma Park, and determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. The file is still under investigation.
• On April 30, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 7000 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. Emergency Health Services and off-duty volunteer firemen were already on scene assisting the driver out of the vehicle, which was on its side in the ditch. The driver, who was displaying signs of intoxication, admitted he’d been drinking and driving and was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After a fail result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Hit and Run Collision
• On April 25, a hit and run was reported after a vehicle in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, was seen rolling backwards and striking another parked vehicle. The driver of the rolling vehicle was seen putting a note on the windshield of the struck vehicle but that note turned out to be a blank piece of paper. Witnesses were able to identify the suspect vehicle owner and police will be following up with the woman. The file is still under investigation.
Boat Theft
• Between April 16 and 21, a Zodiac inflatable boat went missing after being left unsecured on the public dock at Gambier Island. The 15-foot-long Zodiac, which had a 40-horsepower Tohatsu outboard motor on it, is described as old with a damaged plastic floor clip but still very seaworthy.
Theft from Vehicle
• On April 27 at approximately 6:25 p.m., a resident in the 700 block of North Road, Gibsons, looked out in front of her residence and noticed a door on her unlocked vehicle open and an unknown male inside it. The resident confronted the male who fled on foot. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the suspect, who was described as a male between 30 and 40 years old, wearing a red baseball hat and a white shirt or sweater. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle.
Break and Enter
• On April 29, between noon and 4 p.m., a suspect broke a window and a door to gain access to a building on Shelter Islet near Keats Island. The suspect left behind wet footprints and food on a counter before departing. No other theft or damage was reported.
