Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 10 to 17:
Voyeur
• On April 12 at approximately 10 p.m., a voyeur was reported at an address in the 6400 block of Norwest Bay Road, Sechelt, after a female resident noticed a man peering into a bathroom window. The suspect fled the scene on foot. Anyone who has witnessed a male trespassing at night in the area is asked to contact Sunshine Coast RCMP.
Mischief / Thefts from Vehicles
• Overnight on April 12, a vandal smashed a rear window and dented the door of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Abbs Road, Gibsons. It is believed the vandal used a medium-sized lead-cell battery that was located on the road nearby. No entry to the vehicle was gained and nothing was stolen. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• Overnight on April 17, a number of thefts from vehicles or mischief to vehicles were reported at the Tetrahedron Park parking lot near Tuwanek. The suspect smashed windows to gain access to vehicles and stole a variety of items consisting of purses, wallets, clothing and shoes including a purple down MEC down jacket and red leather winter boots trimmed with faux fur. Anyone with any information about these thefts and mischief is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-2099.
Collisions
• On April 12, police attended a three-vehicle collision in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, after an unoccupied vehicle that had been parked northbound on Wharf Road started rolling backwards into traffic. One vehicle managed to mostly swerve around the empty moving vehicle, sustaining only minor rub marks on the side, but a second vehicle was struck before the driver could manoeuvre out of the way. Fortunately no further collisions occurred and no injuries or major damages were reported. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• Shortly after 3 p.m. on April 12, police attended a three-vehicle collision in the northbound lane of Gibsons Way near Sunnycrest Road, Gibsons. Sudden braking by a vehicle in congested traffic led the two vehicles behind it to have to stop suddenly, which led to the second vehicle lightly striking the first vehicle. The third vehicle was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the second vehicle. No injuries were reported but the third vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On April 15, a five-vehicle collision occurred in the northbound lane of Highway 101 near McCullough Road, Wilson Creek, after one vehicle stopped suddenly. The fifth vehicle in the group rear-ended the vehicle in front of it, causing a chain-reaction. The last three vehicles all had to be towed from the scene, and some minor injuries were reported. The driver of the fifth vehicle was issued a Violation Ticket for Following Too Close. Drivers are reminded to leave enough distance in front of them to allow for emergency braking.
Impaired Drivers
• On April 13, a witness reported a possible impaired driver leaving a parking lot in the 5700 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt. Police located and followed the vehicle, noting it was driving well under the speed limit. Police initiated a traffic stop and noted the driver exhibiting signs of intoxication. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test resulting in a “warn.” The 35-year-old male driver from Halfmoon Bay was issued a seven-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
• Around 1 a.m. on April 14, police witnessed a possible impaired driver on Highway 101 near Nestman Road, Sechelt, after the vehicle was seen speeding and swerving over the fog and centre lines before police pulled it over. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of impairment, was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The 30-year-old male driver from Halfmoon Bay was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• On April 14, police attended a multiple vehicle incident involving a possible impaired driver on Highway 101 near Field Road, Wilson Creek, after a vehicle was seen driving erratically, swerving all over the road before striking traffic signs and empty parked vehicles before coming to a stop on the side of the road. Police had to break a window to gain entry to the vehicle in order to extricate the driver from the vehicle. The driver was taken to Sechelt Hospital for assessment. The driver is under investigation for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Found Property
On April 11, two black and grey snowboards were found behind Elphinstone Secondary School, Gibsons. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description, reference file 2017-2005.
