Police Report

RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following from March 22 to April 3:

Drugs

• Around 1 a.m. on April 2, an officer was patrolling a public parking lot on Shoal Way in Sechelt, when he located an insecure vehicle in the parking lot. Security advised that the vehicle had been left that way for several hours. A large bag of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia were in plain view on the front seat. The drugs were seized; however, police were unable to contact the owner.

• On the night of April 3, police were called to a residence on Reef Road, after one male allegedly assaulted another male who was known to him. Police arrived and found that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. After being arrested, officers also located a large amount of marijuana in the suspect’s backpack. He was transported to the Sechelt RCMP detachment and held for court.

Arsons

• During the evening of April 1, RCMP and the Sechelt Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on a forest service road, approximately two kilometres from the intersection of Mason Road and Heritage Road in Sechelt. A red Volkswagen had been apparently set on fire overtop of an old mattress. The vehicle has since been seized for forensic examination. Anyone with information is asked to call Sunshine Coast RCMP or Crimestoppers.

• In the early morning hours of April 3, RCMP and the Sechelt Volunteer Fire Department were called to the 5800 block of Tsulich Drive in Sechelt, after an RV parked at a residence was set on fire. No one was hurt, and the damage is of a relatively low dollar-value. A suspect was identified and later arrested by police. The investigation is ongoing, but this fire is not believed to be related to the fire on the forest service road.

Explosion

• On March 23, police attended a report of an explosion at a residence in the 12800 block of Mainsail Road, Madeira Park. All the occupants were able to exit the residence on their own, and two males were taken to Sechelt Hospital for significant burns. The men advised they had been working on a plumbing issue when the explosion occurred. The fire department attended and ensured the small fire was out and the scene was safe. It is believed a build-up of propane caused the explosion.

• Between March 17 and 28, thieves broke a lock off the door of a building in the 3200 block of Beach Avenue, Roberts Creek, and stole a set of Taylormade golf clubs, a red golf bag, a Coleman grill, Nike golf shoes, a lantern, and a three-person tent. Impaired Drivers

• Around 8:30 p.m. on March 28, police stopped a possible impaired driver after witnessing the vehicle drive over a small curb while leaving a drinking establishment in Sechelt. The 70-year-old male driver, who was displaying signs of intoxication, advised that he’d consumed several alcoholic drinks in the evening, the last being just minutes before driving. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. He was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• On March 28, police stopped a vehicle that was speeding in downtown Sechelt. The 18-year-old N driver, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, admitted he had recently consumed marijuana. The driver was given a standard field sobriety test and was served a 24-hour driving prohibition for driving while affected by drugs.

When the caller was told he had in fact called the police, he tried to engage staff in a discussion about their personal computer at home, advising that there was a virus on it and that he could help clean it up.
