Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following from March 14 to 21:
Thefts
• On March 14, staff at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, witnessed a female suspect leave the premises with a cartload of unpaid-for goods. The suspect was then seen getting into a blue sedan with two males. One of the males is described as older with average height and build, grey hair, glasses, and wearing a hat. The file is still under investigation.
• Overnight on March 14, a thief stole a motor off a boat moored at the government wharf in Gerran’s Bay, Madeira Park. The stolen motor is described as an older model Yamaha 8-HP outboard. Neighbours reported hearing a boat running around 11 p.m. on March 13.
• On March 20, police received surveillance video footage from a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, that for the last month has been dealing with almost nightly thefts by a number of suspects from donation bins in the rear of the business. Police are attempting to identify the thieves. The file is still under investigation.
Break and Enter/ Mischief
• Sometime between March 13 and 15, a vandal broke a window of a business in the 4300 block of Garden Bay Road, Pender Harbour. No entry to the business was gained and no other damage was reported.
• Sometime between early December and March 17, a thief cut a lock and gained entry to a building in the 8700 block of Redrooffs Road, Halfmoon Bay, and stole a large collection of assorted fishing gear, four custom rods and reels, a 1998 grey Yamaha 8-HP kicker motor, two Yamaha flat orange jerry cans with feeder hoses (one containing fuel), two green Mustang self-inflating personal flotation devices, and a brown elastic bottom boat cover. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2017-1444.
Horsing Around
• On March 16, police assisted the Town of Gibsons bylaw officer in rounding up a pair of miniature horses on the loose that were interfering with traffic near the intersection of Tralee Place and Reed Road, Gibsons. The horses, one grey and one brown, were corralled into a nearby property until the owner could be located.
Found Property
• On March 16, a silver iPhone that had been found behind the Sechelt airport in the 4400 block of Hilltop Road, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference file 17-1438.
• On March 20, a white iPhone with a badly cracked screen that had been found in the 4900 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, was turned in. The battery is dead, so it is unknown if the phone is functional. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description, reference file 17-1503.
Robbery
• Early on March 17, police attended a robbery complaint in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. The victim advised that he had been walking along Wharf Avenue around 1 a.m. when he was approached by two unknown males in their twenties. The suspects physically assaulted the victim and stole his wallet. The male was taken to Sechelt Hospital for assessment and released. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-1441.
Impaired Driver
• On March 20, a possible impaired driver was reported in the 5700 block of Boulevard Street, Sechelt. Police located the vehicle a short distance away and noted a strong odour of alcohol coming from the driver. The 49-year-old driver from Vancouver, who advised that he’d last consumed alcohol a short time before, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
