Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Jan. 23 to 30:
Break and enters
• Overnight on Jan. 23, thieves damaged a rear door to gain access into a business in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, and stole a large amount of protein powders, bone supplements, essential oils and weight-loss supplements. Anyone with information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2017-389. The file is still under investigation.
• Sometime between Jan. 20 and 23, thieves gained entry to a locked business in the 4700 block Sunshine Coast Highway, Sechelt, and stole copper piping and a lock box containing keys. Anyone with information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-392.
Collisions
• On Jan. 23, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 5700 block of Trail Avenue, Sechelt, after a vehicle hit an icy patch on a corner and lost control, drove off the road over an embankment, and struck the corner of a house. Fortunately, very little damage to the house occurred, and the residents were in another part of the building at the time. The driver was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On Jan. 26, a hit and run was reported after a vehicle on Selma Park Road in Sechelt was struck by a second vehicle that came off Little Lane. The passenger of the first vehicle indicated to the driver of the second vehicle to follow them up the road to stop and exchange information, but the first driver instead drove away. The hit and run vehicle is described as a gold-coloured Ford SUV-type vehicle. Anyone with information about this hit and run is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 17-451.
Mischief / Thefts
• Overnight on Jan. 23, a thief gained entry to three unlocked vehicles parked in the 300 block of Skyline Drive, Gibsons. The thief stole loose change from the vehicles; no damage was reported. Police remind the public to remove any valuables and to secure their vehicles to deter opportunistic thieves.
• Also overnight on Jan. 23, a thief gained entry to a vehicle parked in the 700 block of School Road, Gibsons, and stole a spare set of keys that had been left in the console. The driver, who believed he’d locked the doors using the fob, found all the doors wide open in the morning. No damage was reported and nothing else was stolen.
Scam
On Jan. 24, a Coast resident reported a scam after receiving an email purportedly from an Internet service provider requesting updated credit card information. The resident provided the information, but after doing so, contacted the service provider directly and learned that the email was a scam. The resident cancelled the credit card and appears to have avoided any fraudulent charges. Found property
• On Jan. 26, three items that were all found at the Tim Hortons in Gibsons were turned in. A white cell phone – reference file 17-463. A black cell phone – reference file 17-464. A Macbook Pro laptop computer – reference file 17-465. Owners may claim these items with detailed descriptions. Items will be held for 90 days.
