Incident report from Dec. 6 to 13:
Halfmoon Bay Theft / Break and Enter
• On Dec. 7, a theft was reported at a business in the 7800 block of Fawn Road, Halfmoon Bay, after the male suspect grabbed a 15-pack of beer and walked out without paying. The suspect, described as Caucasian male in his late 20s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin build, was wearing a dark blue hooded parka and left the area on foot.
During the overnight hours of Dec. 7-8, police responded to a break and enter at the same business. The suspects kicked in a glass door to gain access and opened the cash register, which was empty, before stealing two cases of beer. The two male suspects were caught on surveillance video. The first suspect is a larger male wearing a dark hoody. The second suspect has a slimmer build and was wearing a grey hoody. Police are looking into the possibility that the theft on Dec. 7 and this break and enter are related. Anyone with any information about either of these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 16-8013.
Found Property
• On Dec. 6, a black and silver men’s bike was located in the bushes in the 5600 block of Inlet Avenue. Owner may claim within 90 days with a detailed description. Please refer to police file number 16-7979.
Mischief / Thefts
• On Dec. 7, a Coast resident reported finding a piece of metal inside a baked good purchased at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. The business has been advised and the file is still under investigation.
• On Dec. 12, staff at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, tried to detain a suspect who was witnessed on several previous occasions stealing alcohol. The suspect was uncooperative and fled the premises on foot before police arrival. Police reviewed surveillance video footage of the suspect, who is described as a 16 or 17-year-old male, taking six-packs of alcohol and walking out of the store without paying for them. The file is still under investigation.
Traffic
• On Dec. 7, a witness reported a possible impaired driver northbound on Highway 101 near Largo Road, Roberts Creek, after the vehicle continually crossed the centre line. Police located the suspect vehicle at a business in Wilson Creek, and noted that while the driver was not impaired, he was displaying concerning behaviour that led police to request a driver’s licence medical review.
• On Dec. 7, at approximately 5 p.m., a hit and run occurred at the corner of Highway 101 and Oldershaw Road, Roberts Creek. The first vehicle was travelling south when the northbound second vehicle swerved halfway into the first vehicle’s lane. The first driver attempted to swerve to the right to avoid a collision but the two vehicles still made contact. The first driver pulled to the side of the road to exchange information with the second driver, but the second driver failed to remain on the scene and continued on northbound. The first vehicle was still drivable, but some damage was incurred. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On Dec. 11, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 1300 block of Marine Drive, Gibsons, after the first vehicle came over the crest of the hill and lost control and slid downhill into the front end of the second vehicle. Both vehicle drivers were taken to hospital for assessment and treatment of minor injuries and both vehicles, which were obstructing traffic, were towed. Icy road conditions are believed to have been a factor. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
