Incident report from Nov. 28 to Dec. 4

Break and enter

• Sometime between Dec. 1 and 4, a thief tried to pry off door locks to gain entry to a residence in the 6900 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, but was unsuccessful. The thief appears to have then gained access to an auxiliary building and stole a Yamaha 2.5 HP boat motor, a Stihl leaf blower, and a Stihl hedge trimmer with attachments. Anyone with information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2016-7948.

Collisions

• On Nov. 29, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 900 block of Gibsons Way after the first vehicle backed up to try to get into a parking spot and struck the second vehicle that was backing up at the same time. Neither of the drivers was injured but both vehicles sustained some damage. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On Nov. 30, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 1400 block of Ocean Beach Esplanade, Gibsons, after an unoccupied vehicle rolled down the steep embankment on the side of the road. The driver advised that he’d been attempting to pop the hood when the parking brake disengaged and the vehicle rolled backwards off the road. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was towed out. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Fraud

• On Nov. 30, a Coast resident reported a fraud after receiving an email purportedly from a major company confirming a couple of purchases. As the resident hadn’t made any recent purchases, she contacted the number provided in the email to advise them these purchases were not hers. The resident was asked for and provided some personal information in order to cancel the purchases, including her credit card number. Shortly after this, the resident discovered two unauthorized charges on her credit card account. Drivers

• On Dec. 2, police witnessed a known prohibited driver driving on Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. Police initiated a traffic stop and confirmed the driver was still prohibited from a previous 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The driver was issued an appearance notice for court on charges of prohibited driving and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. The file is still under investigation.

• On Dec. 2, police witnessed a vehicle fail to signal a lane change on the corner of Trail Avenue and Teredo Street, Sechelt. Police initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver who advised he’d just left a drinking establishment and claimed to have only consumed one beer. The driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test, which resulted in a three-day immediate roadside prohibition.

• On Dec. 2, police stopped a driver during a road check in Sechelt, after noting the driver appeared to be impaired, and had an open can of beer in the vehicle. The driver refused to provide a breath sample for a roadside alcohol-screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. Her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Dec. 2, police stopped a possible impaired driver during a road check in Sechelt, after observing a vehicle pull over before reaching the roadblock. Police spoke with the driver who advised he’d consumed a couple of drinks before driving. The “N” driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test which resulted in a 12-hour driving suspension, seizure of his driver’s licence, and a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions.

• On Dec. 3, police witnessed a vehicle speeding on Highway 101 near Sargeant Road, Sechelt. Police initiated a traffic stop and noted the driver exhibiting signs of intoxication. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and after a “warn” result, the driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition, as well as a violation ticket for speeding.

• On the night of Dec. 3, police witnessed a vehicle driving on Highway 101 near Leanne Road, Sechelt, with no headlights on. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was given an alcohol-screening test and after a “warn” result, was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and a violation ticket for driving without lighted lamp. Due to a previous still-valid driving prohibition, the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
