Incident report from Sept. 6 to 13
Thefts
• On Sept. 6, a witness reported a theft from a business in the 4700 block of Highway 101 after the suspect grabbed several items and walked out of the store without paying for them. The witness followed the suspect out to her vehicle but the suspect refused to return the items and fled the scene in a vehicle. Police are reviewing security video footage and the file is still under investigation.
• On Sept. 10, staff at a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101, Gibsons, reported a theft after the suspect was witnessed taking a couple of items, putting them in a bag, and leaving the store without paying for them. The suspect is described as a black male in his twenties, about five feet 10 inches tall, thin build, wearing grey shorts, large work boots and a white striped hoodie. The file is under investigation.
• On Sept. 11, staff at a business in the 1100 block of Gibsons Way reported a theft after reviewing surveillance video and seeing a suspect hide items in his jacket before leaving without paying. The suspect, described as a white male in his mid-70s, slim build, about five feet 10 inches, was wearing eyeglasses and a puffy blue jacket and white shorts and was carrying a green bag with black handles. The file is still under investigation.
• On Sept. 11, a thief gained access to an unlocked vehicle parked at a business in the 5700 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, and stole a purse. The suspect dropped the purse in the bushes where it was later recovered, but stole cash and a debit card. The debit card was later used at a local restaurant in Sechelt. The suspect was caught on surveillance video at both incident locations. The file is still under investigation.
Impaired drivers
• On Sept. 8, police witnessed a vehicle speeding on Highway 101 near Belair Road, Halfmoon Bay. Police stopped the vehicle and noted empty beer cans and the driver exhibiting signs of intoxication. The driver, who advised he’d had his last drink shortly before driving, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• On Sept. 10, while investigating a separate complaint, police located a possible impaired driver at the Langdale BC Ferries terminal. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver advised he’d consumed several drinks earlier in the evening as well as while waiting for the ferry. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• On Sept. 11, police witnessed a vehicle swerving in its lane on Highway 101 near Belair Road, Halfmoon Bay. Police pulled the vehicle over and noted the driver exhibiting signs of impairment. The driver, who advised he’d consumed alcohol shortly before driving, was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After a “warn” and a “fail” result, the driver was given a three-day immediate roadside prohibition.
