Incident report from Aug. 30 to Sept. 6:
Impaired Drivers
• Around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 2, police stopped a vehicle on Fawn Road at Hart Road, Halfmoon Bay, and noted the driver exhibiting signs of intoxication. The 62-year-old male driver, who advised he’d consumed several drinks a couple of hours prior to driving, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• Shortly after 10 p.m. on Sept. 2, police stopped a vehicle with one working headlight and noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible intoxication. The 33-year-old male driver, who advised he’d been drinking earlier in the evening and last drank shortly before driving, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• Just after midnight on Sept. 3, police initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle that was speeding on Gibsons Way near Shaw Road, Gibsons. The 46-year-old female driver, who exhibited signs of possible intoxication, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Collision
• On Sept. 3, police attended a motor vehicle incident involving a cyclist on Wharf Avenue at Highway 101, Sechelt. Witnesses reported the cyclist had ridden through a red light into the side of the vehicle. The cyclist was taken to Sechelt Hospital for minor injuries. The vehicle was damaged but was still drivable. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
Mischiefs / Thefts
• Overnight on Sept. 4, police received two similar mischief complaints in Gibsons. In the first, a vandal damaged tires on a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Shaw Road, Gibsons. A second similar mischief to tires was reported in the 700 block of Cascade Crescent. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference files 16-5871 and 16-5873.
• On Sept. 4/5, police attended a mischief incident at Georgia Beach, Gibsons, after staff discovered someone had rammed a vehicle into the beach access gate, damaging the yellow metal gate. A resident in the area reported hearing a loud boom and crunching sound around midnight, and a witness reported seeing a large, dark-coloured dually truck reversing up Georgia Drive and leaving the scene. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 16-5881.
• Sunshine Coast RCMP would like to remind boat owners, as well as those who have waterfront properties, to secure their valuables as much as possible. There have been several recent thefts or attempted thefts of items from boats and around marinas, especially in the Porpoise Bay area.
