Incident Report for July 11 to 18:
Impaired /dangerous drivers
• On July 16, police witnessed a vehicle weaving in its lane and speeding along Stewart Road, Gibsons. Police initiated a traffic stop and the driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, advised he’d consumed several beer a few hours prior. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test which resulted in a warn reading. He was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was towed to a safe location.
• Late on July 17, a vehicle fled from an impaired driver road check on Beach Avenue, Roberts Creek, and continued driving dangerously and at more than double the speed limit along Beach Avenue. Police later located the vehicle in the area. The driver was issued violation tickets for multiple infractions and a vehicle impound notice for excessive speed, as well as a vehicle inspection order. The vehicle was impounded.
Thefts / found property
• A Coast resident turned in a camera that had been found on Secret Beach, Gibsons on July 11. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description, reference file 16-4271.
• Between July 10 and 11, a thief stole a child-size battery operated ride-in toy Jeep from an address in the 400 block of Aldersprings Road, Gibsons. The toy Jeep is black with flames on the hood and a bumper sticker that says Coexist.
• On July 14, a thief broke a passenger door handle and gained access to a vehicle parked in the 600 block of School Road, Gibsons, and stole a Garmin dash camera, a credit card machine, an iPod and a cheque book. Video surveillance footage showed a dark-haired white male suspect, approximately six feet tall, 200 pounds, wearing a grey hoodie, jeans and a light coloured baseball cap, entering the vehicle and leaving with the missing items. The file is still under investigation.
• On July 13, between 3 and 6 p.m., a thief stole a large number of tools from a business in the 6500 block of Highway 101, Langdale, including two power saws and two grinders. It appears the suspect(s) gained access through a main gate or a boat launch. The file is under investigation.
Collisions
• On July 12, police attended a two-vehicle collision on Highway 101 at Monkey Tree Lane, Sechelt after the first vehicle, which was stopped behind a vehicle waiting to make a left onto Monkey Tree Lane, was rear-ended by a second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a violation ticket for driving without consideration and the matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On July 13, a hit and run was reported in a parking lot in the 5700 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt, after the first driver opened his door and struck the vehicle next to him hard enough to shake the vehicle and leave a mark. The second vehicle’s owner attempted to trade information with the first driver, but he refused to cooperate and drove away. With information from the second driver and a witness, police located the first driver and issued him a violation ticket for failing to produce particulars.
Suspicious circumstances
• On the night of July 13, a resident in the 5700 block of Medusa Street, Sechelt, reported hearing children crying for help. Police made patrols in the area and were advised some children had been playing behind the resident’s house. The parent of one of the children advised that one of the kids had locked herself in the trunk of a car during a game of hide and seek and had been yelling for help. No injuries were reported.
