Incident Report for July 4 to 11:
Collisions
• On the afternoon of July 7, a 62-year-old woman walked away uninjured after her minivan collided with the side of a grocery store in Wilson Creek. The van jumped the curb and struck a support beam on the outside of the building. No one else was injured. The cause of the collision is unknown, but it does not appear the vehicle had any mechanical issues.
• During the evening of July 7, a 59-year-old male was driving in the Davis Bay area when his vehicle began fishtailing for an unknown reason. The male drove off the road, over a small hill, then landed in a residential yard where his vehicle collided with a tree. No major injuries were reported, and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors.
Break and enters
• A Honda generator was stolen from an industrial yard on Payne Road in Gibsons sometime around July 10. It was red, and had a broken 15-amp plug on it. Anyone with information is asked to call Sunshine Coast RCMP or Crimestoppers.
• A business in the 5800 block of Sechelt Inlet Road had its yard broken into between July 8 and 11. Although it is not yet known whether anything was taken, two to three weeks earlier a large volume of aluminum wiring was stolen from the same business. Sunshine Coast RCMP recommend that industrial yards take precautions to secure their property, as scrap metal and tools continue to be desirable targets for thieves. Please report any break and enters or thefts as soon as possible, so that areas of increased crime can be quickly identified.
Fisheries and small vessel inspections
• On July 7, Sunshine Coast RCMP members conducted numerous small vessel inspections and Fisheries Act checks of vessels operating in waters along the Sunshine Coast. Numerous offences were observed, and both tickets and warnings were handed out for everything from boat operators not having required safety equipment on board and not having their boat operator’s licence, to salmon fishing while using barbed hooks, and fishing without a licence.
