Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 7 to 14:
Break and Enter / Thefts
Sometime between March 7 and 8, a thief gained access to a residence in the 12700 block of Warnock Road, Madeira Park, through a glass patio door and stole several bottles of liquor, woodworking tools, a 42-inch plasma television, two laptop computers, an iPhone 3, a Sony camcorder and skydiving rigging equipment. If anyone has any information about this break and enter, please contact RCMP, reference file 16-1326.
• On March 8, staff at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, reported a theft after several jackets and a “Jumpstart Program” donation box were discovered missing. A possible suspect has been identified and police are reviewing surveillance video footage.
• On March 11, police attended a shoplifting complaint at a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street after the suspect fled the scene on foot. Police later located the suspect, who was known to police, recovered the stolen goods, and arrested the suspect for theft under $5,000.
• Between March 11 and 12, a thief gained entry to several unlocked vehicles parked along Browning Road, Wilson Creek, and stole a number of items including loose change, FM transmitters, emergency roadside kits, and BC Ferries Experience cards. Police are looking into possible video surveillance footage. Anyone with any information about these thefts is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2016-1388.
Collision / Hit and Run / Impaired Driver
• On March 10, a hit and run was reported at a business in the 13500 block of Highway 101, Pender Harbour, after the suspect vehicle struck a parked vehicle and fled the scene. A staff member attempted to detain the suspect driver but he refused to remain on the scene. The driver was later determined to be an unlicensed driver. The file is still under investigation.
• On March 13, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Menacher Road, Garden Bay, after a vehicle lost control and flipped over. The driver and two passengers, who managed to extricate themselves from the vehicle, all suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident appears to be a faulty tire. The driver, who did not possess a valid driver’s licence and was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued violation tickets, an administrative driving prohibition, and was released on a promise to appear. The file is still under investigation.
Explosive Fruit
Overnight on March 11, a vandal left a pineapple stuffed with a firecracker inside an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of Dougall Road, Gibsons. The firecracker was not detonated and nothing was stolen from the vehicle. The vehicle owner also found a change purse inside the vehicle and an orange with a firecracker on the front lawn. No further explosive fruit was reported.
House Fire
Shortly after 3 a.m. on March 15, the Sechelt Fire Department and Sunshine Coast RCMP attended a house fire on Tillicum Bay Road in Sechelt. The house was completely destroyed by fire. No one was inside at the time. The cause is still under investigation.
