Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 20 to 27:

Thefts

• On July 12, a shoplifter was caught at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, when she left the store after paying for some items but concealed some unpaid for items in her purse. The shoplifter was detained and the stolen items were recovered without incident. Due to the suspect’s lack of criminal history and other factors, the matter has been referred to Restorative Justice.

• On July 21, at around midnight, a thief stole a bike from outside a residence in the 5500 block of Xweus Street, Sechelt. The bike is described as burgundy with a green bike lock and was last seen being ridden away by a younger female in a white jacket with her long dark hair tied back. 

• On July 21, a thief stole an assortment of fishing equipment from a boat moored on Thormanby Island. The items include a Fenwick HMX mooching rod, a Trophy reel, line and backing and Terminal tackle and flashers.

• Between July 11 and 21, thieves have stolen a variety of items from the Christian Life Assembly located in the 700 block of School Road, Gibsons, including a blue hose, black flower pots full of pink petunias and two rectangular silver sign plates which had been affixed to a stand in front of the building.

• On July 21 at 1:30 a.m., three suspects were witnessed stealing a wreath off the front door of a residence in the 200 block of Periwinkle Lane, Gibsons. The distinctive wreath, which has sentimental value, is made of white seashells and turquoise leaves.

• Between July 19 and 26, a thief stole a three-person Current Designs Libra XT fibreglass kayak from the waterfront in the 600 block of Prowse Road, Gibsons. The kayak has an orange-coloured top deck and white hull. The words Libra X are on one side, and Libra is printed on the other. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 15-5057.

Impaired driving

• On July 23, police received a complaint about a southbound vehicle dangerously overtaking and tailgating vehicles in Madeira Park. Police observed the suspect vehicle in Sechelt and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On July 26, police pulled over a motorcyclist who had been witnessed passing vehicles on a double solid line, speeding and weaving in its lane. The driver, who smelled of alcohol, was given and failed two roadside alcohol screening tests and was issued a 90-day Immediate roadside prohibition and his motorcycle was impounded for 30 days.

Driving without due care

• On July 22, a possible impaired driver was reported westbound on Highway 101 at Field Road, Sechelt, after a vehicle was witnessed tailgating and not maintaining lane control. Police located and initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle. The driver, who was not impaired, admitted he’d been eating pizza while driving. 

• On July 25, a three-vehicle incident occurred on Highway 101, Sechelt, after the first vehicle failed to notice two other vehicles were stopped behind a vehicle attempting to make a left turn off the highway onto Nestman Road.

The first vehicle rear-ended the second, which then got pushed into the third. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital for minor injuries but no other drivers or passengers required medical attention. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.
