Police Report

RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 5 to 12:

Animals

• On July 8, a hazardous situation on Highway 101 at Sullivan Road, Gibsons, was reported after a muster of peacocks was found wandering on the road. Fortunately, an on-duty officer’s spouse was able to locate the owner who retrieved the large birds before they caused too much of a flap.

• Police have received numerous complaints so far this summer regarding distressed dogs being left in vehicles. In one file this week, police were able to open a window using a baton to seize a small, distressed dog and take it somewhere cool to recover. Failing that, the officer would have had to smash the window to help the animal. Even parked in shade with windows left partially open, on a sunny day, the interior of a car can heat up to dangerous temperatures within the first 30 minutes.

Thefts

• On July 7, a theft of a cross-bow was reported at a residence in the 900 block of Neil Road, Gibsons. The cross-bow is a Raider CLS model and is printed with a camouflage pattern. A possible suspect has been identified and the file is still under investigation. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 15-4541.

• On July 5, some sports equipment was found on a beach at Ruby Lake, apparently abandoned as there were no signs of any boats or other personal belongings in the area. The owner may claim with a detailed description, reference file 15-4562.

• Between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on July 8, a thief stole a skirt off a mannequin at a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue. The small or medium size full-length skirt is a RQBL brand of earthy brown/green fabric, and comes in tight at the ankles in a mermaid style. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 15-4569.

• At approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 8, a thief stole a kayak from a vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Teredo Street. The kayak, which had been secured to a trailer, is a brand new orange and yellow RIOT Edge 13 model. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 15-4584.

• On July 9, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a suspect was reported rifling through a vehicle parked in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. When the vehicle owner confronted the suspect, the suspect became verbally abusive and made threatening gestures towards the owner. The suspect, described as a teenage Native male wearing blue shorts and no shirt, about five feet, 10 inches tall with a thin, athletic build, fled the scene on foot. Police are reviewing security camera footage.

• Between June 28 and July 10, a thief stole a black 2006 Yamaha 15-horsepower four stroke outboard motor from a residence in the 8100 block of Redrooffs Road, Halfmoon Bay. Residents are reminded that outboard motors and power equipment are high-value targets for thieves, and to secure these pieces of equipment however possible.

• Between July 11 and 12, a thief gained entry to an unsecured residence in the 5700 block of Pebble Crescent and stole a landline phone and finished off a carton of ice cream.

Traffic

• On July 12, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 2500 block of Highway 101, Roberts Creek after a southbound vehicle went off road and ended up on its side. Fortunately, the driver was unhurt and able to exit the vehicle herself. Poor tire condition and the wet road were contributing factors.
