Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for June 26 to July 2:
Mischief/animal
• On July 2, police received a report of a lone deer running around the 5500 block of Periwinkle Lane, Sechelt. The complainant told the call taker that the deer was not being aggressive and was just doing “deer things.” As it did not sound like the deer was in any distress or injured, police let the deer carry on its way.
• On July 2, police received a mischief report after vandals caused extensive damage to a property in the 6600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The vandals poured stain over carpets, fixtures and appliances, broke windows with a pellet gun, and wrote graffiti on the walls. Police are investigating.
• On July 2 between 1:30 and 2:20 a.m., two masked suspects were caught on surveillance video using a grinder to cut through locks on a deep freezer and a shipping container in the 12800 block of Madeira Park Road. The suspects, who left in two separate vehicles, do not appear to have stolen anything. The file is still under investigation. Anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious is asked to contact Sunshine Coast RCMP.
• On July 2 at 5 p.m., a male suspect kicked and cracked a window at a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, and then fled the scene on foot. No other damage was reported. Police are reviewing surveillance video.
Theft
• Between June 26 and June 28, a thief damaged a door lock to gain entry into a vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, and stole some change and a pair of sunglasses that had been left inside. Police are reviewing security camera footage.
• On June 28 at 10 p.m., a thief stole luggage that had been put on the Langdale-bound ferry bin in error. The luggage, which consisted of two black Haze suitcases containing an inflatable Bestway Cooler Z party island, electric pump and assorted women’s clothing, sat unattended at the Langdale terminal, until a female suspect was caught on security video stealing it. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 15-4303.
• Overnight on July 1, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 1500 block of Henderson Avenue, Roberts Creek, and stole camp tents, black MEC duffel bags, sleeping bags, a Lululemon grey raincoat and keys. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 15-4333.
• On July 1, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The suspect, described as a Native female with long straight hair, was wearing sunglasses, light coloured capris, flip flops and a green high neck T-shirt with Jamaica and a large 16 on front. The suspect filled two bags with assorted goods before leaving the premises. One of the bags was dropped on the way out. Police are reviewing security footage.
Traffic
• On July 2, a witness reported a possible impaired driver on Highway 101 near Norwest Bay Road, Sechelt, who kept driving well over the fog line. The driver also failed to signal when making a turn onto Norwest Bay Road and continued driving over the fog line. Police located the vehicle and spoke with the driver who was not impaired but advised that she drives over the fog line in order to avoid manholes. The driver was advised that she must keep her vehicle in the designated lane and cautioned about proper use of her turn signal.
• On July 2, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 5600 block of Garden Bay Road, Garden Bay, after RCMP received an anonymous report of two injured parties standing outside a vehicle in the ditch. Police found a heavily damaged vehicle and evidence that the occupants were injured, but neither the driver nor passenger were on scene. Police located the driver at her residence and she advised she’d swerved to avoid a deer, lost control and ended up in the ditch. She and her passenger declined medical assistance for their minor injuries.
