Several residents have reported receiving calls from a male purporting to be their "favourite grandson" who is in trouble and requiring a large amount of money for his lawyer. A second male then gets on the line, saying he's the grandson's lawyer, confirming the need for funds and provided details on how the money could be wired to them. This is a scam.

Sunshine Coast RCMP are reminding people to be careful whenever they receive an unexpected request for money and to research the person or company making the request.

See the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre's website at www.phonebusters.com for information about scams and how to protect yourself.
