Sunshine Coast RCMP are reminding the public about the risk involved in hitchhiking after a suspicious incident last Saturday night.

According to police on Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m., a young male was hitchhiking in the Madeira Park area when he accepted a ride from an unidentified male.

Const. Josh Talbot said the young male asked to be taken from Madeira Park Road to the Petro Canada gas station at Garden Bay Road and Highway 101.

"The driver took the young male to the Petro Canada then continued down Garden Bay Road not letting the young male out of the vehicle," said Talbot. "The young male then began to yell and scream. The driver then stopped. The young male then excited the vehicle and ran to a nearby friends home."

The driver is described as an older Caucasian male, with a dark brown to black full beard. He was wearing glasses and a black American Eagle hoodie. The vehicle was an older model, brown, two-door hatchback-style vehicle.

Anyone with information or who may have been involved in a similar occurrence are asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266.
