About two dozen made it into the water for the Armours Beach Polar Bear Swim in Gibsons. At least half that number turned around almost instantly and headed back for shore, while a brave handful actually went in for a real swim. More than 120 spectators watched with a Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue team on standby to make sure the swimmers all got out safely.
