The Annual Polar Bear Swim in Davis Bay hit its 30th anniversary this year with over 300 people spectating and 68 people who jumped into the chilly water on Jan. 1. Co-organizer Jim Brookes said a few people who weren’t registered probably jumped in as well. The event was organized by the Sunshine Coast Lions Club with the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue standing by to make sure everyone made it out of the water – they also provided hot chocolate afterwards.
Throngs of hardy souls attended the annual Polar Bear Swim in Gibsons held at Armours Beach on Jan. 1. The temperature hovered around the freezing mark under sunny skies. Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue and the Gibsons Marine Rescue Society were on hand in case of emergency.
